Other strength apps treat your Apple Watch like a glorified notification.

You raise your wrist between sets expecting to log. Instead: a timer screen that does nothing, no rep input, no RIR, and the rest timer lives on the iPhone. Your premium watch becomes a buzz-only device.

No real on-wrist set logger

Hevy and Strong have Apple Watch apps, but logging is crippled: often read-only or one-tap "done" without reps, weight, RPE, or RIR. You still pull out the phone.

No Live Activity or Dynamic Island

Gym apps don't pin your current set to the lock screen or Dynamic Island. You lock the phone and lose the session state. A 2024 iPhone feature, still untouched by strength apps.

Rest timers are phone-only

The whole point of the watch is to run timers. Most apps trigger the rest timer on the iPhone and forget the watch exists. You miss the haptic tap and push past your rest window.

HealthKit is shallow or ignored

Some apps write a workout stub to HealthKit, none with proper heart rate per set and zone distribution. Your Apple Health history shows "Other Workout" blobs, not real strength data.

Everything you need, on your wrist.

SwiftUI, HealthKit, WatchConnectivity, ActivityKit. Every core workout action on the watch, with iOS 17 and watchOS 10 features wired in, not faked.

On-wrist set logger

Log reps, weight, RPE, and RIR directly from the watch with Digital Crown scrub and haptic feedback. WatchConnectivity syncs to the iPhone session instantly. Ten exercise types, multiple input styles.

Live Activity + Dynamic Island

Pin the current exercise, set, and rest countdown to the lock screen and Dynamic Island of iPhone 14 Pro and later. ActivityKit keeps it alive across app switches. Tap to jump back into the logger.

HR live + AI rest timer

Continuous heart rate during the workout. Rest timer starts automatically when you confirm a set and buzzes at zero. Length auto-tunes based on RPE, rep count, and fatigue insights from your AI coach.

Quick RPE/RIR input

One-tap RPE/RIR input after each set with crown support. The AI coach uses the readings set-by-set to adjust weight suggestions. No more "I'll log it later" that never happens.

HealthKit sync

Completed workouts land in HealthKit as HKWorkout sessions with duration, active energy, and heart rate samples. Fitness rings close, Apple Health history shows real strength data, third-party apps read it automatically.

Exercise demos on wrist

Forgot what a Pendlay row looks like? Tap the exercise on the watch, see a short demo loop and key cues. No phone pickup mid-rack. Works offline once the session is loaded.

Full iPhone + Apple Watch parity. Every feature, both screens.

Arvo on Apple Watch isn't a cut-down port. Same protocol, same UX surface, same features as the iPhone app—with watchOS-native touches on top.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an Apple Watch app for strength training?

Yes. Arvo ships a native watchOS app built in SwiftUI for serious lifters. On-wrist set logger, Live Activity on the Dynamic Island, HealthKit workout sessions, live heart rate, and AI-driven rest timers. Full parity with the iPhone app, not a watered-down companion.

Does Arvo work on Apple Watch Series 6?

Yes. Arvo for Apple Watch supports Series 6 and later, including SE (2nd gen), Series 7/8/9/10 and Ultra/Ultra 2. Install Arvo on your iPhone, the ArvoWatch target installs on the paired watch, and your workout syncs via WatchConnectivity in real time.

What watchOS version is required?

Arvo for Apple Watch targets watchOS 10 and later on iOS 17+. That means Series 6, SE 2, Series 7/8/9/10, and Ultra/Ultra 2 are all supported. Older watchOS versions are not targeted because the Live Activity and Dynamic Island APIs we rely on require iOS 17 and watchOS 10.

Can I track workouts without my iPhone?

The watch pairs with the iPhone to load your program and sync logs, but during a session the phone can stay in your locker. Sets, heart rate, and rest timers run on-watch and queue via WatchConnectivity. When the phone comes back in range, everything flushes to the cloud.

Does Arvo sync with HealthKit?

Yes. Completed workouts are written to HealthKit as HKWorkout sessions with duration, active energy, and heart rate samples. This means the Fitness app rings, third-party health apps, and Apple Health history all reflect your lifting sessions automatically.

Does Arvo show my workout on the Dynamic Island?

Yes. A Live Activity pins the current exercise, set number, and rest timer on the lock screen and Dynamic Island of iPhone 14 Pro and later. Tap to return to the logger. No other strength app we know of ships this on iPhone.

Can I log sets without looking at my phone?

Yes. The watchOS set logger lets you tap reps, weight, RPE, and RIR directly from your wrist with crown and haptic feedback. The rest timer starts automatically when you confirm the set. The phone can stay in your bag.

Is the Apple Watch app free?

Yes. Arvo for Apple Watch is included with the free plan—no separate purchase. The free tier covers core tracking, set logging, heart rate, and rest timers. Advanced AI coaching and unlimited history live in Arvo Pro.
