Log a meal from a photo — then correct it

Can you count calories from a photo?

A photo can produce an estimate of foods and portions. In Arvo that estimate does not save until you edit grams and confirm. It is not a weighed measurement.

Photo calorie apps rank on a different SERP from a generic food diary: Cal AI, SnapCalorie, PlateLens. The job is speed, with you still owning the numbers.

Arvo runs the estimate, then the same editor as a typed meal: 5 g steps, hidden oils, confirm. Free accounts have 1 usable photo scan per UTC day. Pro has no that daily photo cap. Other AI quotas still apply.

Photo → save

  1. 1. Shoot or upload

The model guesses items and portions. This step does not write the diary.

  2. 2. Edit

Grams, extras, name. Totals follow your edits, not the first guess.

  3. 3. Save

Only confirm writes the meal. You can still change it later.

Estimate, not a scale

We do not publish an accuracy percentage. Mixed plates and sauces are hard. If you need a number for the day, weigh or use the package — then log it.

FAQ

Does the photo save automatically?

No. The estimator does not write the diary. You confirm after edits.

How many photo scans on Free?

One usable scan per UTC day on Free. Scans marked unusable do not spend that quota. Pro has no daily photo cap; other limits can still apply.

Is this the same as a progress photo?

No. Meal photos estimate food. Progress photos are body checks over time.
